Pet insurance is a policy that helps you pay for vet bills when your cat or dog is unwell.

Cove offers three types of policy: Accident Only, Major, and Major + Minor. Exactly what each of these covers is summarised in the tables above, and can be found in the policy documents.

In general, Accident Only provides cover for when your pet is involved in a sudden unforeseen accident – such as being hit by a vehicle. Our other two policy types cover this type of accident, but they also extend into illness.

Pre–existing conditions are the main thing to be aware of. Any pre–existing conditions are not covered, and this includes any conditions that develop during the stand–down period.

No, as with most pet insurance policies in New Zealand, Cove pet insurance does not cover what happened (or is related to what happened) before your policy began.

When making a claim we'll request a range of documents. Any possibly hold–ups in providing these documents could delay your claim payment.

You can choose to use any NZ registered veterinarian.

All claims can be lodged online either via your MyCove account, or via the Claims page. Lodging a claim via MyCove is quicker as they have your information on file.
